BURLINGTON, IA (4-21-13) While most area racetracks were forced to cancel this weekends racing due to the weather, 34 Raceway was on as schedule and 44 late models turned out to compete in the CAM Clash For Cash Corn Belt, ALMS, MARS late model series and the $4000 to win check. Chad Simpson, Mount Vernon, Iowa would take the checkered flag in the 40 lap feature for the win. Donnie Steward, West Burlington, would take the checkered flag in the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature and Michael Grossman, Keokuk, got his first I Connect You, Louisa Communications 4 Cylinder division feature win..
Sometimes its just best to be in the right place in the right time. A strong field of 44 Corn Belt Clash Series Late Models checked into 34 Raceway with four heats, 2 B-Mains and provisionals setting the field for the 40 lap feature. Terry Phillips and Kevin Weaver made up the front row of the 40-lap main. Weaver jumped out to an early lead and paced the 27 car field. After a caution on lap 18 the trio of Weaver, Phillips and Chris Simpson began pulling away from the field. Simpson pulled past Phillips and using lapped traffic, slipped by Weaver for the point before the midway point in the race. Fifteenth starting Chad Simpson had worked his way into the top-5 by midway, along with the California Kid Tyler Reddick who was making a charge into the top-10 from his 26th starting position. The three-time series champ, Chad Simpson, worked his way into the second position after battling with Jesse Stovall, Brian Shirley and Phillips. Chris Simpson had put a solid straightaway on brother Chad as the laps ran down, then heartbreak hit the #32 machine as he pulled off with mechanical issues with just over two-laps to go, handing the lead and the win to brother Chad. Jesse Stovall, Brian Shirley, Tyler Reddick and Terry Phillips rounded out the top five
2012 34 Raceway 305 Sprint Track Champion Donnie Steward, West Burlington got off to a good start this season picking up the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint Feature. Andy Huston took the early led in the fourteen car field. Huston ran in to lap traffic by lap twelve and allowed to close the gap Huston had developed between he and the second place Steward. On lap eighteen of the twenty lap race Steward pulled along side Huston on the back stretch and would take the lead and go on to take the checkered flag. Huston, Jayson Ditsworth, John Schulz and Ryan Jamison would round out the top five.
Twenty seven I Connect You, Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders took to the track for their feature event and Keokuk’s Michael Grossman would take the win, his first at 34 Raceway.
